El auricular tiene dos micrófonos (uno en cada auricular) que captan los sonidos externos y los amplifican. El usuario puede ajustar el nivel de volumen a sus necesidades. Ajustando el volumen de la radio y el control de volumen de los auriculares, los dos niveles de sonido pueden equilibrarse de modo que pueda oír tanto los anuncios de la radio como su entorno sin interrupciones.Incluso puede ajustar el conjunto para aumentar el volumen de los sonidos ambientales para mejorar la percepción auditiva o silenciarlos si los sonidos ambientales ahogan los anuncios de la radio o interfieren con su concentración.
Además, cualquier sonido perjudicial se atenúa hasta un nivel seguro para la audición. Una vez que el sonido nocivo ha cesado, los ajustes del aparato vuelven a los niveles normales. El micrófono está montado en un cable flexible. La alimentación se realiza mediante dos pilas AA. Para que el kit esté completo, debe combinarse con el módulo PTT y la radio.
